Sewing

Goldie's learning to sew! I tried to teach her a few months ago and it didn't work. But then I read this blog entry at Sew Mama Sew and was very excited.

I decided to see if she could sew a triangle with a big needle and yarn.

People and Shapes

She did awesome. She was so pleased with her work that she drew her own picture and worked on it.

Three days later was Mom-Maw's Birthday. We made her an apron. We patterned it after the aprons that Katherine made our family for Christmas a couple of years ago. Goldie sewed a flower onto the pocket. She rocks!

Blogging

If you haven't noticed, I've been blogging a lot more lately. I'm practicing. I would like to have a regular blog and I'm not sure if I can do it.

I've wanted to do this for quite awhile now and it hasn't seemed to work or happen. So this practicing as I call it is my motivation and energizer.

A friend from church had a baby at the end of July and last Wednesday while some of the little ones were away I had the chance to sit down and finish this blanket in one sitting. It was awesome to be able to do something like this all at once.

Josiah's Flag

Josiah is always pulling down our United States Flags and playing with them. They end up on the floor in a heap. I solved the problem yesterday! I made him his own personal flag.

J & his Flag

After a couple of hours the stick was broken and the flag piled under a lid. But that's okay.

Next time we are hiking in the forest the job will be to find sticks for the flag.

Rishi

I am a mother. That’s obvious. I am a sister. I graduated from college. I have a job (calling) at church. But who am I? Do any of these things define me?

Last Friday the power cord to my laptop got bit. No one was electrocuted, but two hours later the computer died. I am currently waiting for a replacement cord to arrive at my home.

Last night I was in charge of a progressive dinner at my church. I invited about ten people to participate in different aspects of the meal and entertainment. When the evening was over ten women came but it was still one of the best meetings we had ever had. There was real bonding going on.

Last month I had my first paying gig. On the same day I was also offered a full time position at the library. I declined it for monetary reasons.

Today for another hour or two Stuart and I are home alone. (Mike and the other two kids went to spend the night at Mom-Maw’s without me.) I’ve cleaned a bit, put stuff away from last night’s event, and even sewed a couple of inches. Stuart is playing on the floor.

While I never seem to get anything done with three kids in the house, I am finding myself missing the noise. But at the same time I’m grateful for the quietness. I have more reflecting to get done right after I change a poopy diaper and feed Stuart some lunch…

Melissa & Rock Monster

When we came home from the Mercer Fair we created puppets named Melissa the Dog & Rock Monster

Melissa & Rock Monster

Melissa's body was made from a liquid soap bottle

Melissa's Tail

& her tail cut off from a project done in college

Melissa's Head

It was the first time I made a yarn pom-pom

Rock Monster

Rock Monster was made from two old thread spools as well as pom-poms I inherited

Stuart & the Dog

Even Stuart had fun playing with Melissa & Rock Monster

And I think FREE is so much better!
